Hello Once Again --
The Chief Popper has been working real hard this past month on the road to recovery. Judy has been undergoing physical therapy. Can we say, “Ouch!!” Her latest Dr. report was very favorable and she is actually able to sew again -- within reason. If therapy goes smoothly, the Chief Popper may be back to her Poppin Bobbin Blog in April.
What Was Once Old is New Again!
Ladies’ Hankies. Hankies never really went out of style. Although they no longer are tucked into Grandma’s sweater sleeve or pulled from Mom’s apron pocket, they still pop up here and there. Brides still carry their monogrammed hankie down the aisle and they are still given as Get Well gifts.
Now there are HankieCards. No longer do you have to wait for a special occasion to give your handiwork. HankieCards can be given whenever; St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, Best Aunt Ever, Thinking of You; heck, Happy Groundhog’s Day if it pleases. And, of course, for any especially happy time and most of all, for a not so happy time to let someone special know you are thinking of her.
Supplies:
Hankie Embroidery Design of Choice (2) 12” x 12” Cardstock Glue Stick
The size of the hankie holder and envelope will solely depend on the size your hankie. You must measure accordingly.
Example: 9.5” x 9.5” Hankie size. When folded into square, it equals 5” x 5”. Design placement on hankie is up to the discretion of the creator.
*Cardstock Pocket: 6” W x 6-½” L 1. Place hankie on top of cardstock pocket aligning top edges. 2. Fold cardstock up from bottom to create “pocket”. Fold and crease well. A design can be added to the pocket; a scallop is shown in the photo. 3. Glue stick 1/8” each side of pocket. Be careful not to go beyond the 1/8” as the hankie must be able to slip into the pocket.
*Cardstock Envelope: 9” W x 12” L 1. Top: fold down approximately 1-1/4” and crease well. Open. 2. Bottom: fold up to meet the crease created at the top. Crease well and open. 3. Place card holder in middle of the envelope. Fold each side in. Crease well and open. 4. Top: cut “square” from flap (see photo). 5. Bottom: cut away the sides from the crease outward (see photo).
* Measure according to the size of the hankie.
Easy Envelope: Open a corresponding greeting card envelope slowly and carefully. Steaming the seams will speed the process. Lay flat on top of cardstock. Trace onto cardstock. Cut. Fold and crease into envelope.
Hope your recipient enjoys her forever gift.
